Lanzarote

The volcanic island of Lanzarote has ideal conditions for cross country mountain biking and road cycling. With more than 30 years experience Peter Ciacca from www.Lanzarote-cycling.com is the ideal person to show us round the island and his favourite rides.

Mountain Biking

mountainbike_2Lanzarote is an ideal place for cross country mountain biking. On tracks and goat paths you cycle through the bizarre landscape of lava and craters. The majority of the tours you can start from the Puerto del Carmen area. The longest downhill track is 8 km, most of the others are between 1 and 3 km. In between, there are downhill and uphill stretches with different levels.

Road Cycling

streetbike_3Lanzarote has excellent conditions for road cycling: Smooth tarmac roads, low traffic density, topography up to 600 m with enough flat and steep bits for aerobic endurance and strength training, mild climate that allows year round swimming in the Atlantic.
The best time to visit is from September to May. From June to August, the trade winds keep the temperatures within limits. Only on a few days then, the wind is too strong for cycling on the road.

Beginner road and off-road

radwandern_2For easy cycling the coastal bike lane which connects Puerto del Carmen, Arrecife and Costa Teguise allows you to do tours without inclination nor traffic between 10 and 50 km.

Cyclists who like to ride with the trekking or mountain bike on easy dirt roads and secondary tarmac roads with little traffic will find also plenty of possibilities to combine cycling and sightseeing.
